Kristell Turner is a dedicated educator with over 25 years of experience including 15 years in alternative education. She serves as Lead Teacher at the Transitions Learning Center (TLC) in Bulloch County, under the exceptional leadership of administrator and mentor, Tim Rountree.
Kristell began her educational career in her native Palm Beach County Florida in 2000 teaching high school sciences. She was selected as a Learning Team Facilitator to meet with administrators, teachers, and coaches, to transform low performing schools to high functioning educational environments. After transforming her assigned school, she was then promoted to Instructional Specialist tasked with writing teacher training curriculum, presenting best practices throughout the school district, and managing 15 team members placed at other high needs schools.
After moving to Statesboro Georgia, Kristell joined Bulloch County Schools as a Graduation Coach working with students that were at risk of dropping out. She enjoyed motivating students that seemed to struggle with other teachers. She worked hard to ensure that each student grew academically, behaviorally, and socially. At this point in her career, she realized how passionate she was about assisting “at-promise” students graduate, become more productive members of society, and reach their full potential. Little did she know that this drive to help struggling students would lead to a long fulfilling career in alternative education.
Currently, Kristell instructs diverse learners in science from 6th through 12th grades at TLC, additionally serving as TLC Lead Teacher. She also assists her administrator with intake processes and day to day operations. She shares practical strategies and research-based approaches during TLC’s Professional Learning Community meetings that enhance both teaching and learning. Kristell believes in equipping her team members with tools and resources that foster meaningful success. She consistently supports her program by analyzing data and creating applications to ensure that informed decisions are made that are best for all TLC students.
When not working in education, Kristell spends time with her family and enjoys teaching Bible Study, Youth Sunday School, and volunteering in her community. In addition to her busy personal life, Kristell serves on the GAAE Conference Board to develop an engaging conference that benefits all forms of education. She is honored to present in this year’s conference sharing the exciting things being implemented at TLC, and engaging with fellow educators. u
